| Early Surveying Equipment |
Approximately 75 people were on hand for the second Spearfish
Area Historical Society program of the season at the Spearfish Senior
Citizen’s Center on Oct 1, 2013. The
program included talks by three well-known antique collectors, Gary Renner,
Jack Wells and Leo Orme. Gary shared
stories and artifacts from his work as a surveyor in the Black Hills and
surrounding area. Jack shared stories and
artifacts from early railroading in South Dakota and told WWII stories of his
personal experience traveling the railroad with other enlistment men. Leo showed and shared the functionality of
many antiques from early farming and ranching in the Spearfish area.
